IPL 2024: Top 10 Memes from RR vs MI, Match 38
Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by nine wickets in the rain-marred clash in Jaipur.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) further solidified their top spot standing with a convincing nine-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a rain-marred IPL 2024 clash held at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, April 22. MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first at the pitch known for its batting-friendly nature.
Hardik's decision backfired as Mumbai encountered an early setback in the first over when Trent Boult replicated his performance from the previous encounter between both sides at the Wankhede, getting the prized wicket of Rohit Sharma for 6. Sandeep Sharma, who returned to the RR lineup, made significant impacts in the second and fourth overs, sending back Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, respectively.
Coming in to bat at No. 4 with MI struggling at 20, losing three, Tilak Varma showcased resilience, notching up a gritty half-century. Varma's innings concluded in the final over of the first innings, having accumulated 65 runs off 45 deliveries, featuring five boundaries and three maximums. His 99-run partnership with Nehal Wadhera (49 off 23 balls) propelled MI to post a reasonable total of 179 runs.
The standout performance in the first innings belonged to Sandeep, who claimed a remarkable five-wicket haul while conceding a mere 18 runs. Meanwhile, Boult concluded his spell with two wickets for 32 runs. Additionally, Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name in the history of the tournament in his very first over, dismissing Mohammad Nabi, thereby becoming the first-ever Indian to achieve 200 wickets.

In pursuit of the chase, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal spearheaded RR's innings, adding 61 runs inside the powerplay before rain halted the game. After the game resumed, Piyush Chawla provided a much-needed breakthrough for the Hardik Pandya-led side, dismissing the Englishman for 35 in the eighth over, thereby breaking a 74-run opening partnership. Regrettably, it marked the sole wicket claimed by Mumbai.
Jaiswal, who was struggling to find his form this season, flipped the script with a century off 59 balls. He subsequently struck a match-winning boundary off the final ball he faced as RR successfully chased down the target with eight balls to spare. In the process, the 22-year-old forged an unbeaten century-plus stand with captain Sanju Samson, guiding RR to a nine-wicket victory, which also marked Mumbai's fifth loss this season.
