Prithvi Shaw was once tipped to be the 'next big thing' in Indian cricket. To some extent, it was seemingly justified owing to his dream Test debut for India. Even in the domestic circuit, he was scoring a truckload of runs. However, after some time, the batter lost his rhythm and since then has been on a decline in every format of cricket.

This didn't stop there. Due to his poor fitness and other issues away from the field, Shaw went unsold in the mega auction. Hence will not be a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. Adding to his further selection woes, the Mumbai-based batter was not picked in the domestic squad for the Ranji Trophy along with the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Having said so, recently, the Punjab Kings' (PBKS) rising star and batter, Shashank Singh, shared his views on the declining career graph of Shaw.

"Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything. I have known him since he was 13, since I've played club cricket with him in Bombay [Mumbai]. If you ask me what's wrong with him, he has a different perspective on a few things. Maybe, he can change something about his work ethic, maybe sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM, maybe improve his diet. If he can accept and change some of these things, it would be the best thing for Indian cricket," said Shashank on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast.

Notably, after getting released by Delhi Capitals (DC), Shaw failed to get any bids at all even at his base price of INR 75 lakh during the mega IPL auctions. However, amid all the hard luck, Shaw recently featured in the DY Patil T20 2025 tournament for the Route Mobile team. While leading the side from the front, the Mumbaikar scored 168 runs with an impressive average of 56. Across the three innings he played in, the right-handed batter maintained a strike rate of 182.61.

Shashank's auction mix-up proved beneficial for Punjab Kings

Meanwhile, speaking of Shashank Singh, he was retained by Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 5.5 crore due to his impressive performances last year. What's more fascinating eas the fact that he was bought after a mind-boggling mixup which took place at the mini IPL auction as PBKS did not intend to buy him. But the so-called 'blunder', turned out to be a blessing in disguise for both the team and the batter.

Later on, Shashank proved his worth in the IPL 2024 season as he finished as the highest run-getter for Punjab in the tournament. Notably, he scored 354 runs while averaging a decent 44.25 in 14 innings. During these appearances, he slammed two half-centuries and maintained a stellar strike rate of 164.65.

Moving forward, in the upcoming IPL 2025 season, Shashank will start his campaign as PBKS clash with Gujarat Titans, on March 25, in Ahmedabad.
