WPL Auction 2023: Renuka Singh's family distributes sweets after the pacer bags INR 1.5 crore contract
The Indian pacer witnessed the bidding war from Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants, and Delhi Capitals.
Women's Premier League franchises are involved in intense battles to sign the biggest talent in T20 cricket in the ongoing WPL Auction 2023 on February 13. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are making the big headlines with some biggest signings of the day so far. They broke the bank to sign star Indian batter Smriti Mandhana for INR 3.4 crore, the biggest buy in WPL auction so far.
RCB also stole the limelight by snapping big names like Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, and Richa Ghosh. But the fans celebrated excitingly when they won the bidding war for India's prime pacer Renuka Singh. RCB were involved in a heated battle with Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals for Renuka, who had a base price set at INR 50 lakh. However, they emerged as winners with a winning bid of INR 1.5 crore and the celebration at RCB's auction caught everyone's eyes.
The 27-year-old right-arm pacer made her T20I debut in October 2021 but made a big impact in ODIs last year. She took 18 wickets from seven ODIs last year and won ICC's Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2022 award. She was also included in ICC's ODI Team of the Year 2022 alongside Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur.
Indian fans congratulated Renuka on social media and wished her best for her new chapter with RCB. Renuka's family, from Podi in Himachal Pradesh, celebrated the news by distributing sweets in their village. A video of her family members sharing sweets with neighbours has gone viral on Twitter as well.
Renuka is currently with the Indian team in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. She failed to get any wickets against Pakistan in the opening clash but bowled an economical spell to contribute to India’s seven-wicket win on February 12. Renuka plays for Himachal Pradesh in domestic cricket and has featured for the Trailblazers in Women’s T20 Challenge 2022.
