Promising batter Soumya Tiwari’s joy knew no bounds after the India Women U19 players were congratulated by batting megastar Virat Kohli on winning the inaugural Women’s U19 World Cup. Insia recorded a thumping seven-wicket victory over England in the final at Potchefstroom on January 29.

It was Soumya who successfully anchored the Indian chase and remained at the crease till the end as India bagged their first-ever world title in women’s cricket history. Moments after the World Cup triumph, congratulatory messages started pouring in from eminent personalities and members of the cricketing fraternity, including the run machine Virat Kohli.

Taking to his official Twitter handle Kohli wrote, “U-19 World Cup Champions! What a special moment! Congratulations girls on your triumph”.

Reacting to the message, Soumya took to her Instagram story and wrote, “Is this real? Like seriously, What else u can ask for after the World Cup.”

Notably, just like Kohli, even Soumya has number 18 on the back of her jersey. She had a memorable day in the final as she hit the winning runs and remained unbeaten on 24. She was also involved in a 46-run third-wicket stand along with Gongadi Trisha, which turned out to be a match-winning partnership. Apart from her match-winning knock in the final, Soumya had also effected a run out of Josie Groves.

Meanwhile, this massive win is also a milestone moment for Indian women’s cricket with the inaugural Women’s Premier League around the corner. Elated at the Shafali Verma-led side’s historic win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has announced a cash prize worth INR 5 crore for all the players and the staff members as a team bonus. The victorious Indian team will now reportedly be heading to Ahmedabad for attending a celebration party hosted by the BCCI.

The triumphant team is also expected to watch the third and final T20I between India and New Zealand at Ahmedabad on February 1, Wednesday.
