Former India cricketer and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly heaped massive praise on Mumbai Indians' (MI) flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav following his breathtaking knock against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Rohit Sharma-led MI stamped their authority on RCB as they emerged victorious by six wickets at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, May 9.

Asked to chase down a competitive 200-run target by RCB, Mumbai’s opening duo of Ishan Kishan (42 off 21) and Rohit Sharma (7 off 8 balls) raised a 51-run partnership, with the former doing bulk of the scoring. Following their dismissals, it was Suryakumar Yadav who got to his lethal best and smoked runs all over the park.

Maintaining a steady 200-plus strike rate, Suryakumar took the onus of hammering the big runs as his innings featured as many as six towering maximums and seven fours. Impressed with his knock, former India skipper Ganguly took to his social media handle to laud the masterclass innings by the 'best T20 player in the world’.

“Surya Kumar Yadav the best T20 player in the world .. it seems he bats on a computer @surya_14kumar @mipaltan,” tweeted Ganguly.

The swashbuckling right-hander concluded his innings, having scored 83 off mere 35 balls at an aggressive strike rate of 237.14. In addition to this, Suryakumar stitched a mammoth 140-run partnership in mere 66 balls with young Nehal Wadhera.

MI on course for play-off spot

Though Vijaykumar Vyshak drew curtains on Suryakumar’s outstanding innings, Wadhera’s unbeaten knock of 52 off 34 balls steered the side to clinch the two points. Suryakumar was adjudged Player of the Match in Mumbai’s resounding win as they leapfrogged to the third place with 12 points after 11 matches in the IPL Points Table

With the fag end of the season nearing, Mumbai are well on course to obtain a spot in the play-offs of the event. However, the side will be gunning to win their remaining fixtures to officially cement their berth in the final four of the event. Rohit Sharma and Co. lock horns with defending champions Gujarat Titans at home on Friday, May 12.
