'It’s high time we bring the change within ourselves and stand firm for what’s right' - Unmukt Chand's X post gains attention amid USA squad snub
Former U-19 World Cup winner Unmukt Chand took to X following squad announcement by the USA for T20I series against Canada.
The 2012 U-19 World Cup winner, Unmukt Chand, has been away from the limelight of late. After not being able to find success in a saturated Indian cricketing circuit, the cricketer moved to the United States, taking a citizenship there. The batter is considered to be the most experienced in terms of playing at the highest level. However, the Delhi-born batter seemed to be in disdain after not being considered for the five-match T20I series against Canada.
On March 29, 2024, USA Cricket made an official announcement for the squad to face Canada in a five-match T20I series, which is slated to commence on April 7. Unfortunately, for Unmukt, he didn't find his name in the 15-member squad, coupled with three members as reserves. With this series serving as an ideal platform to find the perfect combination for USA, it dims Chand's hopes quite significantly for his inclusion in the squad for the T20 World Cup to be co-hosted by the USA in June.
Taking to X, he tweeted a profound message, expressing thought-provoking sentiments revolving though his mind, stating that it was quite ironical for him to keep hearing about people grumbling about prejudiced frameworks and the necessity for implementing robust alterations, but it's just people walking the walk and not talking the talk, with the same individuals making merry by using the same unfair means. He also stated that it was big time each individual catalysed a change within themselves, and stand for what is virtuous.

Unmukt has featured in the IPL as well, representing Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) from 2011 to 2013, the Rajasthan Royals in 2014, and the Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2016, having an underwhelming spell, only being able to accrue 300 runs in the 21 matches he played. The right-handed batter announced retirement from Indian cricket in August 2021, post which he moved to the USA for better cricketing opportunities.
The right-handed batter was a part of the Texas Super Kings during the Major League Cricket 2023, but didn't do any wonders there, managing only 68 runs in four innings.
Corey Anderson named for Canada T20Is
Ex-Kiwi all-rounder Corey Anderson, who has represented New Zealand in 31 T20Is, who was also a part of the squad which came runners-up in the Men's Cricket World Cup 2015, was included in the 15-member squad to go head-to-head against Canada in the five-match T20I series to be played at the Prairie View Cricket Complex, Texas.
