On a sweltering Mumbai afternoon in which the Mumbai Indians were put into bat by the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals, proceedings meandered in quite a topsy-turvy way for the home side. The openers provided a solid start, however the middle-order struggled to get going till the entry of a certain West Indian, Romario Shepherd, who lit up the Wankhede courtesy of some dazzling display of fireworks off his bat right at the end. This ultimately proved to be the game-changer for MI to script their first victory in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League.

The game against DC was Romario Shepherd's second game of the season, and his first as a part of the playing XI. He came in and decimated the South African speedster Anrich Nortje, belting him to all parts of the ground in a stunning rendition of unstoppable pyrotechnics. At the end of the blitzkrieg, he garnered 32 off the final over and ended up unbeaten on 39* off 10.

In a heartfelt video shared by the official handle of MI on social media plaform X, Jasprit Bumrah was seen being awarded a badge by none other than bowling coach Lasith Malinga for his sterling bowling display of 2/22.  Bumrah was seen being elated to finally taste victory, with him complimenting the atmosphere due to to the renewed freshness assimilated by the group courtesy of their six-day break after a six-wicket loss to the Rajasthan Royals.

He even gave a shoutout to the Player of the Match, Shepherd, jokingly admitting the relief he experienced at not being at the receiving end of the onslaught which the Guyanese put up for everyone to witness.
