LSG vs MI: Jason Behrendorff's double wicket over ensures Mumbai's sturdy powerplay
Jason Behrendorff was a whisker away from grabbing a hat-trick after dismissing two LSG batters in two deliveries.
Rohit Sharma's visiting Mumbai Indians made a blistering start in their IPL 2023 contest against Lucknow Super Giants, thanks to Jason Behrendorff's exhilarating display with the new ball. The home side's experiment of sending Deepak Hooda as a makeshift opener backfired after he became Behrendorff's first victim of the match.
Lucknow Super Giants, who needed a victory to boost their chances of sealing a playoff berth, turned a few heads by dropping explosive opener Kyle Mayers for the clash against Mumbai Indians. Deepak Hooda was drafted into the playing eleven in a straight swap as he came out to open the innings for the home side.
However, his brief stay at the crease came to an end after he was completely duped by Jason Behrendorff's slower delivery in his second over of the match. The left-arm pacer from New South Wales struck another severe blow after he dismissed LSG's hero of the last outing Prerak Mankad for a golden duck after the batter edged the ball through to Ishan Kishan on his very next delivery. However, he failed to grab a memorable hat trick on the next delivery.
Piyush Chawla continues his merry run in IPL
Although the home side tried to steady the ship with a brief stand between Quinton de Kock and skipper Krunal Pandya, catastrophe struck for Lucknow when veteran Indian leggie Piyush Chawla struck with his very first delivery of the match.
Chawla dished out a superb googly to get rid of the Proteas batter, thanks to a smart catch by Ishan Kishan from behind the stumps. Incidentally, it was Chawla's 20th wicket in the ongoing 16th edition of the competition as continues his fairytale comeback in IPL.
