'Mai unka coach thodi hun' - Babar Azam slams journalist over question on Karachi Kings' PSL form
Babar was traded by Karachi Kings for Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik with Peshawar Zalmi ahead of the 2023 edition.
Babar Azam scored an unbeaten fifty but his team Peshawar Zalmi suffered a defeat against Islamabad United in their recent Pakistan Super League 2023 match on Thursday (February 23). The United easily chased the 157-run target with six wickets remaining to cancel out Babar's unbeaten knock of 75 off 58.
He pulled off an electrifying 76-run stand with Mohammad Haris for the opening wicket to put 76/0 in just 6.5 overs. But After Haris' dismissal, the were restrcited ti 156/8 while batting first at Karachi's National Bank Arena.
In a post-match conference, the Pakistani skipper seemed frustrated with his team's big defeat, and then a journalist pourned more misery with a surprise question about Babar's former PSL franchise Karachi Kings. "Mai unka (Karachi Kings) ka coach thodi hun. Aap mujhse pooch rahe hain?. Abhi aaj ke match ki baat karte hain. [I am not their coach. You are asking me? Let's talk about the game that happened today.]
Babar put on a forced smile on his face while shutting off the journalist with a witty reply. Babar joined Karachi Kings in 2017 and enjoyed six successful years with them. He won the Player of the Season award during the title-winning season in 2020 and finished as the leading run-getter in the tournament on two occasions.
However, he had a forgettable ending with the franchise. He was named the captain for the 2022 season but the Kings finished at the bottom of the table, with just one win from ten group-stage matches. He top-scored for his team and was the sixth leading run-getter in the tournament but faced plenty of of criticism over his leadership skills.
Babar was traded by Karachi Kings for Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik with Peshawar Zalmi ahead of the 2023 edition. However, despite a change in management, Karachi Kings have lost three matches in the tournament and have won just one so far this season.
