MI vs CSK: Tushar Deshpande cleans up Rohit Sharma with ripping delivery
The Indian skipper, who was dismissed for a solitary run in the previous outing, was beaten all ends up by the CSK pacer.
Mumbai Indians' brisk start against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings suffered a hammer blow when star Indian opener Rohit Sharma was cleaned up by a peach of a delivery from Tushar Deshpande. The Indian skipper, who was dismissed for a solitary run in the previous outing, was beaten all ends up by the CSK pacer.
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings opted to bowl first after winning the toss in front of a full-house crowd at the Wankhede. However, it was the home side who made a steady start to the match on the back of a swift opening partnership between Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma. The Mumbai skipper looked in the groove as he dispatched Tushar Deshpande for a brilliant six off the first delivery of the fourth over.
But it was the CSK pacer who had the last laugh as he rattled Rohit's middle stump with a ripping delivery. The Indian opener was beaten all ends up and had a despondent look on his face. Meanwhile, Deshpande, who has had a mixed season so far, punched the air in delight after sending the Mumbai skipper back to the hut. Despite Rohit's departure, the home side kept their foot on the accelerator, thanks to Kishan's explosive cameo in the powerplay.
MS Dhoni's decision to take pace off the ball paid dividends for the Yellow Army as the Mumbai batters surrendered meekly against the CSK spin twins, Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner. The pair combined for five wickets in their eight overs to rattle the MI middle order. Following a horrible collapse from the middle order, the onus is on Tim David and Tristan Stubbs to take their side to a competitive total against their arch-rivals.
