Despite this, amidst the cricketing hustle, Siraj shared a touching post on his Instagram story, remembering his late father.
During his standout performance on India's tour of Australia in 2020, Mohammed Siraj faced an unexpected blow off the pitch when he received devastating news of his father's passing. This heartbreaking news left the promising fast bowler shattered, grappling with immense emotional turmoil while fulfilling his national duties on the field.
While in Australia during November 2020, the Hyderabad's pacer suffered the loss of his father, Mohammed Ghaus, who succumbed to illness. Hindered by Covid-imposed quarantine regulations, he could not attend his father's funeral, adding to the challenges during that time. He emphasised that only video calls were a source of rescue.
"In Australia, nobody could bio-bubble. visit other players' rooms as we spoke on video calls," Siraj shared the moment in RCB Season 2 Podcast.
Mohammed Siraj cried during National Anthem remembering his father
Ahead of the third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the right-arm pacer was visibly moved during the rendition of India's national anthem. Tears welled up in his eyes as he stood for the anthem, receiving a comforting pat on the back from his teammate, fellow pacer Jasprit Bumrah, acknowledging the emotional moment.
Following the day's play at Sydney, he opened up about his emotional moment during the national anthem. He shared that his thoughts drifted to his late father, who passed away two months prior, reflecting on how proud his father would have been witnessing his Test cricket journey. Making a noteworthy Test debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Siraj played a pivotal role in India's impressive win, levelling the series 1-1 against Australia.
