Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bizarre run-out in the match between Ratnagiri Jets and Puneri Bappa in the ongoing Maharashtra Premier League went viral. In the 12th over of the first innings, the skipper tried to run two and was very close to completing it but fell just inches short of the crease. His bat got stuck on the edge of the crease and his foot was in the air and at the same time, the Maharashtra cricketer lost his grip on the bat, which resulted in him getting run out.

Notably, he flicked the ball towards the left side and attempted to pick up a double but Krish Shahapurkar covered a lot of distance and threw it perfectly for Nikhil Naik to collect it and dislodge the stumps. With that, Gaikwad’s brilliant cameo of 29 runs off 15 balls came to an end, and the trouble for the Bappa increased.

Watch Ruturaj's strange run out here:

Bappa lost Neel Gandhi early, and the other batters too were facing difficulty in accelerating. Batting at 4, Gaikwad showed a lot of courage and brought the momentum back with his team but it didn’t last long. The visitors lost quick wickets, which complicated the situation further. Rahul Desai and Sachin Bhosale tried to take control of the situation but couldn’t capitalize. Satyajeet Bachhav was incredible with the ball as he picked up four wickets, while Vijay Pawle picked up two as Puneri posted 148 runs in the first innings.

When it came to the chase, Dhiraj Phatangare held one end but Ratnagiri lost two quick wickets. Later, skipper Azim Kazi and Naik took charge and played a crucial part. Kazi made 31 runs off 28 balls while Naik made 27* runs off 22 deliveries. Yogesh Chavan (17 runs off seven balls) and Bachhav (17 runs off six balls) played important cameos as Ratnagiri Jets won the match with just two balls remaining.

With that, Ratnagiri Jets maintained their place on the top of the points table, while the Pune-based franchise stands fifth.
