In the 22nd match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Afghanistan and Pakistan faced off. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first, managing to score a respectable total of 282 runs. Chasing the target, the Afghanistan team won the match convincingly by eight wickets.

After the game, Rashid Khan was seen celebrating with former Indian all-rounder and renowned commentator, Irfan Pathan, showing their joy at Afghanistan's convincing victory. Coming to the match, Afghanistan secured their first-ever victory over Pakistan in One Day Internationals (ODIs). This match was a moment of redemption for the Afghan cricket team, who had previously faced seven unsuccessful attempts against their arch-rivals.

Afghanistan successfully chase down the target to snap their historic first-ever win versus Pakistan

Speaking of the run chase, Afghanistan displayed resilience and determination while chasing a target of 283 runs set by Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 encounter. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran delivered an exceptional performance by forming a brilliant partnership of 130 runs for the opening wicket. Both players scored half-centuries, setting the stage for an extraordinary run chase. Gurbaz's aggressive approach and Ibrahim's elegant drives kept the scoreboard ticking.

They reached 100 runs in just 15.3 overs, leaving Pakistan's bowlers confused. Pakistan managed to take their first wicket in the 22nd over when Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Gurbaz. However, Afghanistan remained composed. Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi took charge, building an unbroken partnership of 96 runs for the third wicket.

Their calm approach frustrated Pakistan's bowlers, who struggled to make any breakthroughs. Rahmat scored an unbeaten 77, while Shahidi contributed a brisk 48 not out. Throughout the chase, Pakistan's bowlers seemed clueless, unable to extract any assistance from the pitch.

The Afghan batters capitalized on Pakistan's poor fielding and showcased exceptional running between the wickets as well. The match concluded with Afghanistan sealing a historic victory, thanks to captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, who hit the winning runs with a pull-off Afridi. This result marked a significant milestone for Afghanistan, recording their highest successful chase in ODIs.
