ODI World Cup 2023: Top 10 Memes from PAK vs SA, Match 26
In Match 26 of the ODI World Cup 2023, South Africa beat Pakistan by one wicket.
The 26th match of the 2023 ODI World Cup took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where Pakistan and South Africa faced each other. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first.
Pakistan's openers, Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique, struggled initially and were dismissed early on in the first Powerplay. However, both the pacers and spinners had opportunities to make an impact on the pitch. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan provided stability to the innings, maintaining a steady momentum. However, partnerships were hard to come by as wickets continued to fall.
Shamsi, who replaced Kagiso Rabada, aggressively took wickets with his attacking lines, and his dismissal of Babar Azam proved to be crucial. Saud Shakeel and Shadab Khan's counterattacking partnership injected life into the innings. But when Shakeel was dismissed, Pakistan's hopes of reaching a total of 280-300 were dashed. South Africa's bowlers cleaned up the lower order, leaving Pakistan with a final score of 270.
In their chase, South Africa started strongly, scoring 30 runs in the first two overs. However, they lost in-form batter Quinton de Kock, who was caught attempting a pull shot off Shaheen Afridi's ball. Despite this setback, captain Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen continued to score freely. Unfortunately, Bavuma was also dismissed, leaving South Africa in a precarious position.
Aiden Markram, however, stood strong and kept scoring runs while wickets fell at the other end. David Miller formed a crucial partnership with Markram, and it seemed like South Africa would easily chase down the target. However, they once again began losing wickets, leading to a tense situation where South Africa needed 11 runs to win and Pakistan needed one wicket to secure victory. Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi showed great resilience, and Maharaj ultimately sealed the win with a boundary, securing a one-wicket victory for the Proteas.
