The blistering start was fueled by the swift strikes of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who effortlessly manoeuvred the ball across the field.

Amidst the challenging conditions, Virat Kohli, anchoring the innings with finesse, was captured hydrating with a refreshing sip from the New Zealand 12th man. The cricketing battleground witnessed Kohli's strategic innings unfold, mirroring the intensity of this pivotal encounter. 

The moment took place in the 30th over as Kohli approached the New Zealand players gather during the drinks break. Kohli, known for his camaraderie, casually requested a water bottle from Will Young, who promptly obliged.

The incident showcased the amicable relations between Indian and New Zealand cricketers, a bond evident not just through the game but also in shared camaraderie off the field. His friendship with Williamson and the IPL connections among players further underscore the spirit of mutual respect in the cricketing fraternity.

Maestro Kohli achieved a monumental feat in his illustrious international career, notching up his eagerly anticipated 50th ODI century during the high-stakes World Cup semi-final. Surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's milestone, he showcased his brilliance with a scintillating hundred off 106 deliveries, embellished with eight fours and a six – his third century in the 2023 World Cup.

The Delhi batter's century held a unique significance, as he surpassed Tendulkar's record at the hallowed grounds of Mumbai, the very city where the cricket legend honed his skills during his formative years. In his fourth World Cup appearance, he not only secured his maiden century in a knockout match but also eclipsed the Master Blaster's record for the highest runs in a single World Cup edition, amassing a remarkable 673 runs on his journey to the milestone.

In his innings, he eclipsed Australian great Ricky Ponting's tally of 13,704 runs, securing the third-highest position among ODI run-scorers. Presently trailing only behind Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234), Kohli's prolific form places him as the leading run-scorer in the 2023 World Cup.

The moment Kohli went past Tendulkar's ODI World Cup record

Tendulkar's ODI century tally is not the record Kohli broke in Mumbai against New Zealand. When he scored his 80th run, Kohli also eclipsed Tendulkar's record of scoring the most runs in a single World Cup edition, which he did in 2003 with a 673-run tally. Kohli currently has 711 runs at an average over 100 in 2023 World Cup.
