WATCH: Commentator Sehrawat's bold claim: Is Rohit Sharma really a better captain than Dhoni?

MS Dhoni was handed the Indian team captaincy in 2007 and in a span of just six years, he led India to T20 World Cup 2007, World Cup 2011 and Champions Trophy 2013 titles. The veteran relinquished captaincy in 2017 ahead of Champions Trophy 2017 and passed on the baton to the star India batter, Virat Kohli.

But it took Rohit Sharma to lead India to the ICC title in 2024, ending the team’s trophy jinx of over 11 years. Notably, the 'hitman' assumed the captaincy in February 2022, en route to becoming only the third Indian captain after Kapil Dev and Dhoni to win the World Cup. As Indian fans are expecting another ICC title under Rohit with Champions Trophy 2025 beckoning, Indian commentator and former Ranji player, Padamjeet Singh Sehrawat made a bold remark by declaring Rohit as a 'bigger captain' in comparison with Dhoni.

“The great general will take the first bullet himself. According to me Rohit Sharma is a big captain. I believe he is a bigger captain than MS Dhoni. You will find some who do not like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and I am talking about the former cricketers, they are not his friends. I have not found anybody who says wrong about Rohit Sharma. I have spoken with everybody, he is dearer to everyone,” said Sehrawat on Richa Jain Kalra's podcast. 

“He did not play Sanju Samson in one of the finals. You would not believe, he is going to play the final and before the game he kept a hand on his shoulder and reasoned why he is not playing him. He is that concerned,” he added.
