Virat Kohli helps India register a famous win at the MCG

Coming back to the contest, Pakistan were tottering in the initial overs having lost their key batters skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan cheaply and at one point it appeared as if their middle order might crumble under pressure on a difficult batting surface.

However, the pair of Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed showed a lot of bravery and counter-attacked the Indian bowlers. The duo scored their respective half-centuries and were involved in a 76-run stand for the third wicket. Some good hits from tail-ender Shaheen Afridi ensured that the Men in Green finished at a competitve total of 159/8.

In reply, the Indians seemed to be down and out at 31/4 in the seventh over and that is when Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya took the initiative of steadying the Indian ship. The duo added 113 runs for the fifth wicket and Virat stayed till the very end scoring an unbeaten 82 runs off 53 deliveries.

Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock as India continued their World Cup dominance over the arch-rivals.
