Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been very animated whenever it came to DRS calls in the World Test Championship final. On Day 1 of the final, the 36-year-old asked for DRS without looking at the umpire and on the following day, the opener was cheeky in his approach and attempted for the review but didn’t exactly point the 'T' mark. Hence, the on-field umpire didn’t refer to the third umpire as the Indian team were having a laugh at The Oval.
Notably, the incident happened in the 97th over of the match when Alex Carey was batting. Mohammed Shami's ball hit Alex Carey's pads, and the Indian players appealed for the same. However, the on-field umpire ruled it out, and that's when Rohit played a small prank.
Shardul Thakur sends Steve Smith back to pavilion
Smith, meanwhile, couldn’t survive for long as the former skipper hit 121 runs off 268 deliveries before walking back to the pavilion. Shardul Thakur once again picked up a big wicket, but Smith eventually helped Australia be in the driver’s seat in the first innings. Travis Head, on the other hand, looked phenomenal on Day 1 but couldn’t make much of an impact on the following day. The 29-year-old hit 163 runs off 174 deliveries as Mohammed Siraj eventually got the better of him in the 92nd over of the match.
When it comes to Indian bowlers, they looked much better on Day 2 but Australia remained calm and posted 400+ runs, which can bother the Rohit Sharma-led side. India will have to bat equally well, if not better in order to topple Australia’s total on the board. As of Lunch on Day 2, the Pat Cummins-led side posted 422 runs on board and is in total control of the match. Indian bowlers, meanwhile, need three more wickets to bundle Australia’s batting.
