Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals registered a comprehensive win by 60 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second fixture of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL). As the action shifted from the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy to the Brabourne Stadium, what followed was utter mayhem displayed by the Delhi-based franchise.

Upon winning the toss, Smriti Mandhana decided to field first in order to have a target in mind and understand the dynamics of the pitch. However, the decision quickly backfired as Delhi openers Shafali Verma and skipper Meg Lanning stitched a record-breaking partnership to maintain complete control of the clash.

The duo added 162 runs between them in mere 87 balls before the skipper was sent packing for a score of 72 runs. Shafali (84) too, was dismissed in the very same over by Heather Knight as she was 16 runs shy of scoring a century in the league.

Marizanne Kapp and Jemimah Rodrigues carved another big partnership of an unbeaten 60 runs from 31 balls which propelled the side to attain a mammoth 223/2 on the board.

RCB derailed in humongous run chase

The Challengers from Bangalore required their skipper to step up and lead from the front in order to revive the game. Though Smriti Mandhana got off on the right foot and hit the ground running almost instantly, her innings was cut-short by Alice Capsey.

Mandhana got 35 runs off 23 balls which included five boundaries and one maximum and stitched a quick 26-ball 41-run partnership with opening partner Sophie Devine. Meanwhile, Delhi continued to extend their lead as they kept getting the wickets at regular intervals to derail the rival side in the run chase.

Ellyse Perry scored a gritty 19-ball 31 before departing and that pretty much set the tone in the chase. Including Perry’s dismissal, Delhi scalped five wickets in just 20 balls to stamp their authority in the contest.

Down the middle-order Megan Schutt and Heather Knight tried to put up a fight as they got 54 runs between them before the latter was dismissed by Tara Norris. Impressively, Norris, the associate nation player and also Delhi's fifth overseas player in the XI, scalped a five-wicket haul with bowling figures of 5/29 in her four overs.
