Sachin Tendulkar moved by para cricketer Amir Hussain's dedication, promises to have a jersey after his name

Legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar recently lauded 34-year-old differently abled cricketer Amir Hussain from Jammu and Kashmir who captains the Para cricket team of his union territory. Hussain has been playing cricket professionally since 2013 and his cricketing talent was discovered by his teacher who introduced him to Para cricket.

The specially-abled cricketer bats by holding his bat between his shoulder and neck and bowls using his feet. He unfortunately lost both his arms in an accident at his father’s mill at the age of eight. A video of Amir batting and bowling in the nets wearing Sachin Tendulkar’s jersey caught the attention of the legendary cricketer who appreciated his love and dedication for the game. He further expressed his wish to meet him and have his name on his jersey.

“And Amir has made the impossible possible. I am so touched watching this! Shows how much love and dedication he has for the game. Hope I get to meet him one day and get a jersey with his name. Well done for inspiring millions who are passionate about playing the sport,” wrote Sachin on his X handle.

Notably, India has a national blind cricket team as well which is run and organized by the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI). The Board is affiliated with the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC).

The blind team participates in One Day International and T20 International Matches and has several major titles to their name. The Indian team has won T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2017, and the ODI World Cup Championship in 2014 and 2018.

The Para athletes of our country are also recognised by the government as recently, 17-year-old para archer Sheetal Devi was bestowed with India’s second highest sporting honour the Arjuna Award after winning the Asian Para Games. She also etched her name in history books by becoming the youngest World Archery Champion of the modern era and India’s first-ever senior world champion in her debut international season.
