Sachin Tendulkar reacts after Virat Kohli smashes solid century in Guwahati to equal his record on home soil
The yesteryear legend took to Twitter to congratulate Team India on their excellent performance against Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI on January 10.
Former India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to post a congratulatory note after Team India posted an emphatic win over Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI in Guwahati on January 10. The tweet came after Virat scored his 45th ODI ton and equalled Tendulkar's world record of 20 tons on home soil.
Kohli's performance in the 1st ODI makes him just four tons short of the Master Blaster's staggering record of 49 hundreds in the 50-over format. While Kohli had a touch of fortune with Sri Lanka dropping two catches, one cannot take away the sheer class shown by him.
'Keep performing this way' - Tendulkar lauds Kohli's century
Taking to Twitter, Sachin Tendulkar lauded the 34-year-old by writing, "Keep performing this way, Virat, and keep making India proud. Splendid batting performance by the top order!"
Kohli was not the only one who made an outstanding contribution as skipper Rohit Sharma responded to the criticism of benching the in-form duo of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav by giving India a solid start in the company of Shubman Gill.
Surprisingly , Tendulkar did not react to Kohli equalling his record in the ODI format of the game. Even though Kohli still needs five more ODI centuries to go past the 49-year-old's 49 tons, he equalled the batting legend’s record of scoring the maximum number of ODI centuries on home soil. Given his form, it seems only a matter of time before Kohli will smash this record of Tendulkar.
Team India won the 1st ODI by 67 runs. They will be locking horns with Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI on 12th January at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
