The Melbourne Test has been revolving around Virat Kohli and the reasons are unwelcoming. First, the veteran was criticized for shoulder-pushing the 19-year-old debutant, Sam Konstas, as the Australian media came hard at him with a sharp and critical approach. The Day 2 of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) game on December 27, gave birth to a fresh verbal dolly within the Indian broadcasting circuit involving the former cricketers and commentators Irfan Pathan and Sanjay Manjrekar

Notably, Yashashvi Jaiswal was batting on 82 and had stitched a vital partnership of 102 runs with Virat Kohli for the third wicket. But the southpaw misjudged his hit and rushed for a single where Kohli had not reciprocated as the ball was in the hands of the fielder, Pat Cummins. This led to the dismissal of Jaiswal. As a result, this triggered Manjrekar to criticize Kohli quite harshly and he pointed out that the veteran should have responded to Jaiswal's call for a quick single.

"Ball was going slow, I don't think Kohli would've been runout. It was Jaiswal's call. Maybe a risky run but he was at the danger end, not Kohli. It was a schoolboy error from Virat that he looked back and decided it wasn't a run. If it was a bad call from Jaiswal, he would've gotten out at the non-striker's end," Manjrekar said on Star Sports.

On the other hand, Irfan Pathan defended the former India Captain and cited that there was no run and he was not confident enough to make it while the ball was inside the thirty-yard circle. However, the ongoing debate took a different turn. Pathan, the former India pacer was seemingly adamant on defending the star India batter. While Manjrekar in his corner, retorted back by saying that Pathan did not let him talk and put forth his views fully and interrupted in between.

"If you don't want to let me talk, it's alright,” Manjrekar responded.

Here’s the viral vdeo of Pathan and Manjrekar’s verbal spat:

India lose momentum as they trail by 310 runs against Australia on Day 2

Meanwhile, speaking of the ongoing Melbourne Test, after Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal, Team India lost the rhythm as soon after, Virat Kohli yet again fell prey to the off stump conundrum and got dismissed by Boland. As a result, the visiting side lost the initial run scoring after the Jaiswal-Kohli duo had seemingly steadied the ship while trailing against Australia's huge first-innings score of 474.

As it was the last session, India opted to send a nightwatchman in the form of Akash Deep. However, he failed to support all rounder Ravindra Jadeja present at the other end, in a bid to save India from further damage in the closing sessions of Day 2. As a result, the Indian side were left reeling at 164/5, Currently, Rishabh Pant and Jadeja concluded the day for the team without getting dismissed. At this point at Stumps on Day 2, the visitors are still trailing by 310 runs against Australia.
