Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to put up a fight against long-time rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 38 of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on Sunday, April 20. The IPL El Clasico could not live up to its hype as Hardik Pandya and Co. decimated a feeble CSK side to register a crucial nine-wicket win.
After CSK posted 176/5 in their 20 overs on the back of fifties from Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, Mumbai made light work of the total as they romped home with 15.4 overs. Rohit Sharma returned to form as he remained unbeaten on 76 off 45 balls. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav also played a brilliant knock of 68 not out off 30 deliveries.
This is Mumbai's third consecutive win in the tournament. They have four victories and as many defeats after playing eight games in the competition. On the other hand, CSK have just two wins and six defeats from eight matches, and their hopes are reaching the playoffs are all but over.
Former India opener and CSK fan, Kris Srikkanth, said that the season was seemingly over for the Men in Yellow, and he advised them to express themselves in the six matches remaining in the season. The 65-year-old also congratulated MI on their win and lauded Rohit and Suryakumar for their destructive knocks. He backed the Hardik Pandya-led side to win the tournament.
"So this season is pretty much over for CSK! Well played MI it was treat to watch Rohit and Surya sending balls to every part of the ground! Only advice left for CSK to go out and express themselves in the rest of the games! Like I predicted its @mipaltan Cup to loose," Srikkanth wrote on his 'X' handle.
