From critic to admirer: Shama Mohamed applauds Rohit Sharma's stunning 76 in CT 2025 Final victory
Congress national spokesperson Shama Mohamed had earlier fat-shamed Rohit Sharma through her social media.
The national spokesperson of Congress, Shama Mohamed, praised India captain Rohit Sharma after his blazing 76-run knock led the Men In Blue to another ICC (International Cricket Council) title on Sunday (March 9). Notably, the 'Hitman' led with the bat from the front as the Asian side lifted the Champions Trophy title in Dubai, after 12 years.
Notably, the Indian team was up against a spirited New Zealand side, which had crushed South Africa in the semifinal to set up the summit clash for their probable second ICC knockout title. However, the Blue Brigade remained unbeatable in the eight-team tournament to clinch their third Champions Trophy title.
For the unversed, Shama had earlier body-shamed Rohit Sharma by calling him 'overweight' and one of the 'least impressive' leaders India has ever had via a now-deleted tweet. But after the Mumbai-based batter led his men efficiently to lift the second ICC title within two years, surprisingly, in a complete twist, Shama took to her social media to laud Sharma and congratulate the team on winning the Champions Trophy 2025 edition.
Notably, her remarks were widely criticized by the political parties and leaders along with Indian cricket fans. After the situation was seemingly putting Congress in a bad light, they distanced from Shama's remarks saying it did not reflect the party's stand. Later on, the spokesperson confirmed that it was her individual opinion and not that of the party.
"Congratulations to #TeamIndia for their stupendous performance in winning the #ChampionsTrophy2025! Hats off to Captain @ImRo45 who led from the front with a brilliant 76, setting the tone for victory. @ShreyasIyer15 and @klrahul played crucial knocks, steering India to glory! A triumph to remember!" Shama wrote on her official 'X' handle.

India lifted their third Champions Trophy title
Meanwhile, speaking of the Champions Trophy 2025 final, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and decided to bat first. Though they started briskly in the powerplay, the Indian spinners brought the Indian team back into the game by keeping the Kiwi batters under control for most of their innings as they finished with setting a 252-run target.
In reply, Rohit Sharma along with his opening partner Shubman Gill, gave India a solid start to set the tone for the other batters to come. The skipper led from the front with a sensational 76-run knock off 83 balls, which proved crucial as the match turned out to be a nail-biter. Eventually, the Men in Blue won the game by four wickets with six balls to spare. This was the second ICC title in the white-ball format for the Rohit Sharma-led side as last year, the team won the T20 World Cup in the West Indies.
