Simon Doull heavily criticizes nature of pitches in Pakistan

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam might have had a memorable 2022 as far as individual performances were concerned, but could not make much of an impact as captain as his team lost two successive home Test series in the year gone by, against Australia and England.

Babar faced criticisms from all corners during the England Test series for his captaincy tactics and his inability to contribute with the bat during crunch moments. Now, former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull has come forward and had some fun at Azam’s expense in the commentary box.

Simon Doull’s sense of humour leaves co-commentators in splits

The hilarious incident took place during Pakistan’s first innings as the Kiwi bowlers were keeping the home batters at bay. Doull, who is one of the members of the commentary panel for the ongoing bilateral series, jokingly called out Babar Azam for his love of playing on flat wickets.

“Where do these directives come from? Do they come from Babar Azam? Does he want to play on these roads to improve his own stats,” said Simon Doull on air as his co-commentators were heard having a laugh over it.

The 53-year-old vented out his frustration against the nature of the wicket in Karachi Stadium where the second Test match is underway. The wicket so far has only benefitted the batters while bowlers have had a tough time toiling hard for breakthroughs.

The previous game which was also played at the very same venue saw the bowlers being helpless due to the flat nature of the wicket. After New Zealand succeeded in registering a competitive total of 449 in their first innings in this match, the Pakistani batters responded brilliantly to post 408 courtesy of an excellent unbeaten 125 from middle-order sensation Saud Shakeel.

Unfortunately for Babar Azam, he could not make the most of his opportunities on this perfect batting track and was run out for just 24 runs.
