‘Stop swiping through the camera’ - Usman Khawaja’s adorable interaction with daughter steals show during press conference
Australia are 82 runs behind after Stumps on Day 2.
Australia opener Usman Khawaja’s adorable interaction with his daughter during a press conference has been doing rounds on social media after the opener scored a stunning century against England in the opening Ashes 2023 Test in Birmingham.
Notably, Khawaja attended the press conference along with his daughter after the end of second day's play. He explained that his daughter refused to leave him, and that resulted in a heart-warming media interaction.
Meanwhile, throughout the press conference, Khawaja was spotted talking to Aisha, his older daughter, as the latter was enquiring about her sister, pointing out hats, and playing with the phone of a journalist among many things. The opener eventually had to stop his interview midway to ask his daughter not to do so and informed her that she can play with Dad’s phone instead.
“Stop swiping through the camera. It’s okay, you can do it later – you can play with Dad’s phone,” Khawaja said in the press conference.
Scoring that century was just a bit more emotional than normal: Usman Khawaja
Australia lost the wickets of David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith rather early on Day 2 and needed someone to step up to stabilise the innings. Khawaja, who has struggled to do well in England, rose to the occasion and hit his maiden century on English soil as the visiting team looked in a great position after Day 2. Meanwhile, after reaching the three-figure mark, the 36-year-old looked very emotional as he celebrated by roaring, sprinting and eventually throwing his bat in the air.
“I think it was a combination of three Ashes tours in England and being dropped in two of them. I don’t read the media, I genuinely do not read the media but when I’m getting sprayed by the crowd as I’m walking out there today and as I’m going to nets that I can’t score runs in England,” Khawaja reacted when asked about his century.
“So, I guess it was just a bit more emotional than normal. I feel like I’m saying this all the time, same thing happened in India. Not that I have a point to prove but it’s nice to go out there and score runs for Australia and just to show everyone that the last 10 years hasn’t been a fluke,” he added.
