T20 World Cup 2022: Zimbabwe players and staff celebrate victory over Pakistan with unique dance moves
Zimbabwe clinched a 1-run victory over Pakistan to bag their first win of the tournament.
Zimbabwe scripted history when they defeated Pakistan by the barest of margins, just one run, at the Optus Stadium in Perth on October 27, 2022, in the 24th match of the T20 World Cup 2022. It was yet another thrilling match at the competition, and the game came down to the final delivery of the ultimate over before Zimbabwe emerged victorious.
After bagging a thrilling victory against cricketing giants Pakistan, Zimbabwe players were seen dancing in a unique fashion and they had a special dance move to celebrate their victory. Pakistan had to chase just 131 runs, but Zimbabwe did not let the Pakistan batters gain momentum in the game, kept picking wickets at regular intervals, and eventually defended three runs off the final delivery of the match to win the contest.
Zimbabwe Cricket shared a video of the players breaking out into a unique dance move to celebrate the win as they captioned it: “Celebrating yet another terrific performance!”
The players formed a circle, and it was the skipper Craig Ervine who showed off some dance moves first. Then it was the members of the staff who indulged in the dancing. Hamilton Masakadza then showcased his moves. Notably, it was Richard Ngarava who kept singing the song in their native language and took the initiative to bring every player and member forward for a dance step or two.
Speaking of how the game panned out, Zimbabwe openers, while batting first, started off very well and hit the Pakistan pacers for some big runs. But after the first wicket, Zimbabwe lost the form with the bat, and their batting unit came crashing down in the second half of the innings. They lost eight wickets in total, but survived till the 20th over and managed to post 130 runs.
While chasing, Pakistan openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were dismissed cheaply. Shan Masood kept the game going from one end, but he could not build a partnership with any of the other batters. Mohammad Nawaz hit a four and a six towards the end and kept Pakistan’s hopes high, but Zimbabwe bowlers outplayed the opposition batters and kept their calm till the end to bag a majestic victory.
