T20 World Cup 2024: CAN vs IRE, Match 13 Highlights: Unmissable video recap, turning points, match analysis, stats, and more
Canada defended a low score and defeated Ireland comfortably in a low-scoring thriller.
In the 13th match of Group A at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on June 7, 2024, in New York, Canada defeated Ireland by 12 runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Ireland won the toss and chose to field. Canada, despite a shaky start, managed to score 137/7 in 20 overs, thanks to Nicholas Kirton's 49 off 35 balls and Shreyas Movva's 37. Barry McCarthy and Craig Young took two wickets each for Ireland.
Ireland struggled in their chase, managing only 125/7. Key performances from Canada's bowlers, including Jeremy Gordon's 2/16 and Dilon Heyliger's 2/18, thwarted Ireland's efforts. George Dockrell (30*) and Mark Adair (34) were Ireland's top scorers, but it wasn't enough. Kirton was named Player of the Match for his crucial innings.
Going forward, the Irishmen are scheduled to play their next match against the USA at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, on June 14. Meanwhile, Canada will take on Pakistan in New York on June 11.

After the match, the Irish skipper Paul Stirling expressed disappointment over the tough loss, acknowledging that the team was not at their best. He believed the target was achievable but admitted that the team fell short in all areas. Stirling emphasized the need to improve for the upcoming matches in Miami and Florida, focusing on the next game.
"Tough loss today, we weren't at the races today. The target was gettable, we didn't think we'd struggle too much. We were off in all three facets today, we need to show a better game when we go to Miami and Florida. We don't want to look too far into the future, we've got USA next," he said after the match.
