During the 12th over, rain began to fall, and Head Coach Jonathan Trott instructed his players to slow down the game as the rain intensified. Interestingly, Naib went down at slip, clutching his hamstring. Rashid Khan, the skipper, was visibly unhappy and questioned Naib about what had happened. Meanwhile, the grounds crew brought the covers on as the rain picked up pace. At that moment, Afghanistan were ahead by two runs according to the DLS method.
Reflecting humorously on the situation, Ian Smith joked about his nagging knee issue that had been bothering him for the last six months. He quipped that he plans to visit Gulbadin Naib's doctor right after the game, considering him the "8th wonder of the world" for seemingly performing miracles.
"I've a dodgy knee for the last 6 months, I am gonna see Gulbadin Naib's doctor straight after the game. He's the 8th wonder of the world right now,” he said.
After the game, when questioned about Gulbadin Naib's situation, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan responded with minimal elaboration. He mentioned that Gulbadin had experienced some cramps, expressing hope for his teammate's quick recovery. Rashid emphasized the significance of the crucial wicket Gulbadin had taken during the match, underscoring its importance in their team's performance.
“Gulbadin had some cramps I think, hopefully he'll be alright. That wicket he took was massive for us,” Rashid said after the game.
Coming to the match, In a thrilling encounter, Afghanistan secured an eight-run victory over Bangladesh, thanks to the DLS method. For Afghanistan, captain Rashid and Naveen-ul-Haq secured four wickets each to win the game for the side.
