'The greatest of all time. King Roger' - Virat Kohli reacts as Roger Federer announces retirement

Roger Federer shocked his fans on September 15, Thursday, with his announcement of retiring from professional tennis after the Laver Cup in London next week. He took to Instagram and Twitter to announce his decision with an emotional post. He thanked the sport and his fans that helped him achieve greatness during his 24-year professional career and said that it is time to listen to his body.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner dominated the Tennis world for the last two decades alongside Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Recently he struggled with injuries and underwent a knee surgery last year. His recovery was dragged on many occasions this year, and now finally, he decides to step away from the court. This is big and shocking news for the fans who are still recovering from the 23-time major winner Serena Williams' retirement earlier this month.

Within few minutes of his decision, his name started trending on social media with fans' wishes for his next phase of life. One of his biggest fans, the star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli also commented on his retirement post. He termed Federer, the greatest of all time, and King Roger with love emoticons. Kohli, the king of cricket, has been a big fan of the Swiss legend and has met him on several occasions. In 2019, he was spotted at the Australian Open watching Federer beat Andy Murray. He and his wife Anushka Sharma met the Tennis ace after the match and the player was in awe after the meeting. He revealed that Federer remembered meeting him in the past and that stunned him as a fan.

"He (Federer) told me that he met me in Sydney a couple of years back during an exhibition match and I was like "waoh he remembers me". I can't explain that feeling. I have seen him play since I was a child and he is a great man and a great human being. He kept asking me questions and I could talk to him about mindset. It was a beautiful time spent,"  Kohli said in 2019.
