There has been a lot of ordinary bowling in IPL 2024, says LSG Assistant Coach Lance Klusener
RR chased down 197 runs against LSG at Ekana Stadium.
Lance Klusener spoke about the quality of bowling in the IPL 2024. After the match between RR and LSG, Klusener was in the post-match conference, where he talked about the high scores being registered and chased down in the league. PBKS chased down the highest total in the history of the league against KKR. Likewise, scores of over 240 have become normal in the league.
The assistant coach of LSG claimed that the bowling has been very ordinary in the league. Lance added that the bowlers have disappointed him by not evolving as quickly as the batters. Klusener claimed that the batters are so good in recent times and are taking advantage of it.
"There hasn't been a lot of good bowling. It's been a lot of ordinary bowling and batters are just so good these days that they're taking advantage," said Klusener as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Klusener felt that the death bowling from some of the premier pacers has been poor. He claimed that the bowlers need to evolve quickly like the batters. While the former South African cricketer agreed that the pitches have been flat and the swing has diminished, he felt that the bowlers have not evolved.
"Sure the surfaces have been flat, and there's not been swing either. I think the batters have evolved a little bit quicker than the bowlers," Klusener added.
The former all-rounder felt that one need not have to complicate things. He believed that if a bowler is able to deliver 4 yorkers in an over, it is enough than skills like slower ones or the other variations. Klusener felt that the bowlers in modern times rely on variations than traditional straight or wider yorkers.
"If you run in and execute even four out of six yorkers... we don't see that skill anymore. We're going to slower balls and a whole lot of other variations so I feel that pure death bowling, yorkers, whether wide or straight, that's a skill that we don't see very often these days," Klusener felt.
I got KL Rahul with my variation, the leg cutter: Avesh Khan
Just like Klusener, Avesh Khan was in the post-match conference from the winning side. The RR bowler who dismissed KL Rahul in the death overs was asked about his take on Klusener's opinion about the bowlers. Avesh felt that having variations and the ability to deliver them is the key to the success of the bowlers. Avesh claimed that he got the wicket of Rahul by a leg cutter.
"I believe if you have only variation but you execute it well, then it is enough. I got KL Rahul with my variation, the leg cutter," said Khan.
