On Tuesday, May 16, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) locked horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. LSG defeated MI by five runs, propelling them to third place in the IPL 2023 points table, while Mumbai have slipped down to number four.

The Krunal Pandya-led side scored 177 runs in 20 overs after being invited to bat first. Meanwhile, in the second innings, MI needed 11 runs off the final over to win, and Tim David and Cameron Green, who were on strike, were trapped by Mohsin Khan's death-over exploits, allowing LSG to claim a much-needed victory.

Following MI's defeat, an old Instagram post by David has gone viral. After Mumbai defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) in an IPL 2023 match, David uploaded a photo of himself and Cameron Green with the caption, "If you need 5 off 6, we are your men." However, both were trolled by fans since they failed to score 11 runs in the final over of the game.

Tim David became a hero after smashing a hat-trick of sixes to help MI beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) in an IPL 2023 match at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. When MI needed 17 to win in the last over, David scored three back-to-back sixes and guided the Rohit Sharma-led side to a much-needed win. David was expected to be a like-for-like replacement for the big-hitting West Indian star Kieron Pollard.

MI must win their next match against SRH to secure playoff spot

The five-time IPL champions will now have to win their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 21. Mumbai will also have to keep a close eye on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), as all three sides can finish with 16 points if they win their games. Meanwhile, with 15 points to their name, LSG are very close to sealing a place in the playoffs. They will play their final match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 20.
