The 36h match of the ongoing ODI World Cup was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad where England and Australia faced off each other. England won the toss and elected to field first.
Batting first, Australia had a poor start as they lost their openers cheaply but despite early setbacks, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith managed to stitch together a 75-run partnership before Smith's dismissal. Cameron Green and Labuschagne then rebuilt the innings, with Adam Zampa's quick cameo helping Australia reach a competitive total of 286 runs. For England, Chris Wokes was the standout performer with the ball as he took four crucial wickets including David Warner and Travis Head.
In their chase, England had a tough start as Jonny Bairstow got out on the very first ball of their innings. Even though David Malan and Ben Stokes did well by scoring 50 and 64 runs, England couldn't keep up with Australia. They lost wickets regularly, and Australia's bowlers were too strong for them. Towards the end, Moeen Ali tried his best, but he also got out, thanks to the great bowling of Adam Zampa, who took three important wickets.
In the end, England could score 253 runs and lost the match by 33 runs, which ended their hopes of moving forward in the tournament. Australia's win gave them confidence for their next game against Afghanistan, while England will face the Netherlands in their upcoming match.
