Twitter Reactions: Joe Root breaks multiple records with his sublime 35th Test ton in Multan

Coming in at England being one-down in the second over of the first innings after being on the field under the scorching heat for a total of 149 overs was never going to be easy for Joe Root. The challenge was even more intimidating with England being 552 runs behind Pakistan's first innings total in the first Test of the three-match series in Multan.

However, none of these elements seemed to get better of Root as he brought up his 35th Test century in the second session of the second day as he fuelled England to come closer to reducing the deficit with his every run. Right from Ball 1 which was driven through the covers for a triple, Root looked his authentic self as he grew into his innings over time.

At one point in his innings, Root had more triples than boundaries. He looked increasingly more self-assured as he approached his ton. He brought up his century via a reverse sweep to a delivery which was pitched outside the leg-stump. He did not indulge in a rollicking celebration from his end to conserve his store of energy, but each and everyone in the crowd stood up to what was a brilliant inning from him.

Talking of the Test so far, the home side has put a sturdy first innings total in front of the visitors with 556 runs on the board. The high score came on the back of three centuries from Pakistan's batting lineup with Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood, and Salman Ali Agha putting up 102, 151, and 104 runs, respectively. Jack Leach got the maximum of three wickets from England's end with Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse striking twice each in Multan.
