'Umpire bhaiyo, food for thought aaj raat ke liye'- Shoaib Akhtar teases umpires for signaling no ball in final over of India vs Pakistan clash at MCG
Shoaib Akhtar has lambasted the umpires for their no-ball call in the high-pressure final over of the India-Pakistan encounter at the MCG on Sunday, October 23.
Shoaib Akhtar has hit out at the umpires for calling a no ball during the final over of the blockbuster ICC T20 World Cup 2022 encounter between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at the MCG on Sunday, October 23 that saw the Men in Blue come out on top by four wickets in the final over.
According to Akhtar, it just was not a no-ball as Kohli had moved out of his crease while attempting a big shot off the fourth delivery from spinner Mohammad Nawaz.
In one of his deleted Twitter posts, Shoaib wrote, "Aur haan, umpire bhaiyo, no ball thora dekh ke. Bunti nahi thi wasay (Umpires be a bit observant while making no ball calls, it wasn't one (referring to the no ball in the final over))."
In another post, the 'Rawalpindi Express' clarified what exactly he was referring to by posting an image of Kohli attempting a big shot off a delivery bowled over the waist height.
IND vs PAK: No-ball saga in the final over
With 16 runs needed off the final over, Mohammad Nawaz was given the initiative to get the job done for Pakistan and he did succeed to an extent when he accounted for Hardik Pandya's dismissal off the very first delivery and then kept Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik quiet for the next couple of balls.
However, on the fourth delivery, he was struck for a six by Virat Kohli off a full-toss which was signaled as a waist-height no-ball by the on-field umpire Rod Tucker. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam lost his temper due to the incident and was seen having an argument with the officials.
To add insult to injury, Virat was bowled off the very next delivery, but the free hit call stayed since the previous delivery happened to be a wide. Sensing an opportunity, the batters smartly ran three as the ball rolled down to third.
Even though he (Mohammad Nawaz) got Dinesh Karthik stumped on the penultimate ball, Ravichandran Ashwin hit the winning runs to register a famous win for India.
