Bangladesh were left regretting their decision to bat first against India at Dubai in Match 2 of the ongoing edition of the Champions Trophy courtesy of Axar Patel's guile. He was brought on to bowl in the ninth over of the game and nearly bagged a hat-trick to put Bangladesh on the backfoot.
Axar got his first success when an outside edge to the wicketkeeper brought about the end of Tanzid Hasan, who departed for a run-a-ball 25. Right on the next ball, a wide-of-the-crease delivery by Axar drew Mushfiqur Rahim forward as he ended up nicking to KL Rahul.
Unfortunately for Axar, he missed a deserving hat-trick delivery as Rohit Sharma could not hold a catch. It was a regulation opportunity which was hashed by the skipper at first slip, denying Axar his maiden hat-trick in all forms of international cricket.
The video for the same is attached below:

Bangladesh ended their batting powerplay on a score of 39/5. They were one wicket shy of equalling their infamous record of losing six wickets inside the powerplay in the Champions Trophy, a debacle they endured against New Zealand in 2002.
India were right on top of the opposition ever since taking the field, dismissing left-handed Soumya Sarkar and skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, for five and two-ball ducks, respectively. Mohammed Shami secured his second wicket of the day when he got Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught out in the slip, with Shubman Gill taking a sharp catch to leave Bangladesh three-down within seven overs.

Meanwhile, India went ahead with Harshit Rana over the more experienced Arshdeep Singh in their tournament opener. Kuldeep Yadav wily wrist-spin was preferred over the mystery spin of Varun Chakravarthy.
