Rohit Sharma welcomed Nathan Smith to the crease with a colossal hit over long-on on the third delivery of the sixth over of the innings in the Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9.

Coming in as Matt Henry's replacement, Smith's third delivery of his first spell was heaved for a 93-metre maximum over cow corner. The Indian skipper danced down the track in what seemed to be a premeditated attempt. A robust connection meant the ball sailed deep into the stands.

The seasoned Henry was unfortunate to miss out on playing the all-important summit clash. An uncomfortable fall on the right shoulder while hanging on to a catch in the deep during New Zealand's semi-final clash against the Proteas. Ahead of the final, Henry was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament; scalping 10 wickets in four innings.

Bracewell traps Kohli in front, momentum shifts towards New Zealand

India's dynamic start with the bat was nullified after Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli departed in rapid succession. An absolute blinder of a grab from Glenn Phillips at cover was the reason Gill had to walk back after scoring 31. Soon after, Michael Bracewell was brought into the attack.

He struck with his very first delivery, trapping Kohli plumb in front. Kohli did take the review quite hesitantly. However, the Hawk-Eye showed three reds. Rohit remains at the crease. Shreyas Iyer joined the skipper after Kohli's short stay at the crease. India are chasing 252 for victory.
