WATCH: Virat Kohli mimics Shreyas Iyer's misfield against New Zealand during Champions Trophy 2025 clash; video goes viral
Iyer top-scored for India with a composed 79-run knock.
Star India stalwart Virat Kohli has been involved in various hilarious moments and banters on the cricket field. In the same vein, he came up with yet another funny moment during the Champions Trophy 2025 clash between India and New Zealand, in Dubai, on Sunday, March 2. Notably, the hilarious incident took place between the ninth and tenth over.
The final delivery of the ninth over was driven by Kane Williamson to extra cover. Shreyas Iyer was stationed at that fielding position. It was an innocuous shot by the former Kiwi skipper which went straight to Iyer. However, he failed to gather it cleanly, almost resulting in a run taken by Williamson.
While shifting positions between overs, Virat Kohli seemed to playfully poke fun at Iyer, before breaking into an entertaining impersonation. The second-wicket stand between Williamson and Will Young was broken shortly after. Varun Chakravarthy, coming in for Harshit Rana for India's last group-stage encounter, dismissed Young on the third delivery of the 12th over. A googly outside off stump was chopped on by Young.

India set to seal victory and end league phase on a high
The runners-up of the previous edition, India, appear to be in control of the game at the time of writing. New Zealand were eight down with only seven overs left in the run-chase. The Kiwis required a hefty sum of runs. The departure of Williamson only made the pursuit tougher. As a result, the Kiwis succumbed to the run-chase pressure and got bowled out for 205 runs. With this, the Men in Blue won the game by 55 runs to claim the top spot in the Group.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first. India were in a spot of bother with all of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Kohli departing without much contribution to the scoreboard. However, a vital partnership between Iyer (79) and Axar (42), and then Hardik Pandya's 45-run innings led India to 249/9 at the end of 50 overs.
