Wasim Jaffer shares his India's World Cup squad
Jaffer didn't make too many changes from India's Asia Cup squad.
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has shared his version of India’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup. The 45-year-old didn’t make many changes to the Asia Cup squad and has dropped Prasidh Krishna and Sanju Samson. He kept his faith in Tilak Varma, who is yet to make his debut in the 50-overs format.
On the other hand, amidst news of his injury, Jaffer believes that KL Rahul will recover on time and will be back in the squad. Furthermore, he didn’t choose Yuzvendra Chahal, whose exclusion from the Asia Cup squad created quite a buzz in the cricketing fraternity. He kept his faith in Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel for the mega tournament.
India also haven’t named a single off-spinner in the squad for the Asia Cup, which was one of the big talking points. However, Jaffer too believes in the same philosophy.
Meanwhile, the former cricketer also didn’t name Suryakumar Yadav in the squad. The current number-one ranked T20I batter has failed to prove himself in the ODI cricket and hence, may face the wrath of the selectors. He is part of the Asia Cup squad but with Iyer now fully fit, it’s very unlikely that the cricketer will be able to it to the squad.
Kishan in contention for India's playing XI spot for ODI World Cup
Coming to the team combination, it will be interesting to see if the think tank backs Ishan Kishan in the playing XI for the ODI World Cup 2023. The southpaw hit four back-to-back half-centuries in ODI cricket but is likely to warm the bench after KL Rahul joins the team. On the other hand, Shubman Gill is currently going through a lean patch and it needs to be seen if the management backs him in the coming games or try Kishan at the top of the order.
When it comes to bowling, India have already made it clear that either Mohammed Shami or Shardul Thakur will feature in the XI. The Palghar-born cricketer provides an extra batting option and hence, the team management might prefer him against quality opponents.
