Carlos Brathwaite wasn't happy with a controversial decision from the umpire during Qualifier 1 of the Max60 Caribbean 2024 tournament.
Carlos Brathwaite could not control his anger and frustration after being controversially given out during Qualifier 1 of the Max60 Caribbean 2024. The video clip showing Brathwaite's shocking reaction to the umpire's decision has gone viral on social media and shows him in poor light.
Playing for the New York Strikers against Grand Cayman Jaguars, the out-of-favour West Indies all-rounder was given out caught behind after attempting a pull shot off the bowling of Ireland seamer Joshua Little. The ball ricocheted off his right shoulder before settling in the mitts of the wicketkeeper Ben Dunk, who looked quite confident about some contact with the bat.

The umpire almost raised his finger instantly as Brathwaite was taken aback. He stood in disbelief for a while before slowly making the long walk back to the pavilion. As he was about to exit the field of play, the 36-year-old tossed his helmet in the air hit it ferociously with his bat and deposited it out of the park. As he was about to reach his team's dugout, the Barbados-born threw his bat away in a fit of rage.

Brathwaite hit a six during his innings of seven off five deliveries. He was dismissed in the ninth over, with 10 more deliveries remaining in the innings. Brathwaite knew how important he could have been for his team in the death overs as he could clear the longest of boundaries with consummate ease. The commentators also felt that the ball had come off his shoulders and one of them called it a "poor decision" from the umpire.

Brathwaite was through his shot before the ball had arrived. In an encounter that involves high stakes, controversial umpiring decisions can be quite frustrating. However, as the dust settles, an experienced cricketer like Brathwaite would understand that he could have handled things slightly differently.
