Kuldeep Yadav did not back up a throw from Ravindra Jadeja which could have yielded India a wicket in the 2025 Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on Sunday, March 9, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The incident happened off the second delivery in the 41st over of the New Zealand innings. Michael Bracewell punched a delivery off the back foot to the left of Jadeja at backward point. The 36-year-old rushed to the ball in no time and picked it up cleanly with one hand before unleashing a hard throw at the non-striker's end.

Bracewell had almost collided with non-striker Daryl Mitchell as they were trying to steal a quick single. Kuldeep didn't go behind the stumps to collect Jadeja's throw. Instead, he watched the throw missing the target, standing close to where he had finished on his follow through. Bracewell had given up hopes of reaching the crease, and Kuldeep could have affected the run-out had he backed up the throw.

Virat Kohli and Jadeja weren't too pleased with Kuldeep's fielding effort, and they voiced their frustration. After the over, India captain Rohit Sharma also asked Kuldeep why he doesn't stand behind the stumps to collect throws. For the unversed, a similar incident happened in the semi-final between India and Australia when the left-arm spinner allowed a throw from Kohli to pass towards the stumps instead of backing up. Kohli and Rohit gave him a mouthful after the incident.

Kuldeep bags two crucial wickets

Kuldeep might have some work to do as far as his fielding is concerned, but the 30-year-old was in excellent form with the ball on Sunday. He took the important wickets of Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson in consecutive overs after the first powerplay to bring India in a strong position.
