Watch: England skipper Ben Stokes loses control of his willow; nearly lands on square leg umpire
England are on the brink of completing a series whitewash against Pakistan.
The Ben Stokes-led England have got off to a terrific start in the final innings of the ongoing third Test in Karachi against Pakistan while chasing 167 runs to win the game and the series 3-0. In the midst of the Three Lions' batting in their second innings, skipper Stokes flung his bat accidentally which landed close to the square leg umpire.
England are on the cusp of registering a clean sweep in the three-match Test series. During their chase of 167, a rather hilarious incident took place when Ben Stokes was batting at the crease.
On the fifth ball of the 15th over, Stokes was up against spinner Nauman Ali and the former miscued a shot and lost control of his bat as it landed near the umpire standing at square leg. The batter and the commentators on air were left in splits when Stokes lost grip of the bat. Umpire Ahsan Raza, who was the one standing at square leg was seen jogging out of the firing line.
England on the cusp of series win
The recently crowned T20 World Champions are set to register a massive whitewash as the side requires just 55 runs to seal the third Test. The Babar Azam-led side were bundled out for just 212 runs in their second innings and handed a 167-run target to the Three Lions.
It's likely that both England and Pakistan can't make it to the summit clash of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle. Prior to the series, Pakistan had minor chances of progressing further but with back-to-back losses at the hands of a dominant English side, Babar Azam and co. are almost out of the race.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's arch-rivals, team India and Australia have found wins against Bangladesh and South Africa respectively. The victories have handed both sides a decent chance of making a strong case for a spot in the summit clash of the global ICC event.
