Watch: Gautam Gambhir shares poetic moment with Navjot Singh Sidhu after India's victory
India lifted the ICC Champions Trophy after 12 years.
Gautam Gambhir secured his maiden title as head coach of the Indian cricket team as they triumphed over New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final. Loaded with filling the huge void left by Rahul Dravid after India's T20 World Cup 2024 victory, Gambhir faced intense backlash, specifically for the New Zealand series and Border Gavaskar Trophy results. Nevertheless, he silenced critics emphatically, leading India to their second Champions Trophy title in history.
Amidst the powerful celebrations at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, a fun and warm exchange took place between former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu and Gambhir. Sidhu, known for his poetic flair, found himself on the receiving end of Gambhir’s poetic attempt.
"Fann kuchalne ka hunar seekhiye janab...," began Gambhir, prompting Sidhu to complete the verse: "Saapon ke darr se jungle nahi chhore jaate."
Deeply moved, Sidhu shared the moment on social media, writing, "The Shayari that he asked me to narrate has a lot to say … he @GautamGambhir is here to stay … wish him and the Indian cricket team the very best …. You made India proud brother."
Sidhu then playfully challenged Gambhir to break into a Bhangra dance, but the India coach hesitated. While he did strike a Bhangra pose, he refrained from dancing, despite Sidhu’s repeated insistence.

Post-match, India captain Rohit Sharma praised Gambhir for supporting his vision of an aggressive playing style.
"It (attacking game) is not natural to me, but it’s something I really wanted to do. When you try something new, you need the backing of the team and management, and they supported me throughout. In the ODI World Cup, Rahul bhai backed me, and now Gauti Bhai has done the same. That support is crucial," Rohit remarked.
