Watch: India Women cherish motivational family messages ahead of T20 World Cup opener

Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 commenced on October 3 and India women will take on New Zealand on October 4 in their first assignment in the tournament. It is worth noting that, Indian women have never won a T20 World Cup trophy and they enter the ninth edition of the event with high hopes. Ahead of their tournament opener, the players received motivational messages from their friends and family. 

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team came close to winning the trophy in 2020 but was defeated by Australia in the final. As the latest edition of the event is being held in the United Arab Emirates, the familiarity of the conditions has made the team one of the favourites to lift the trophy. BCCI curated the family messages in a video and presented them to the players who cherished the moment with hearty laughs.

“Hi Smriti we wish you all the best for the upcoming World Cup. We just wanted to let you know and the entire team that we are super proud of you for the hard work you put in day in and day out,” said Mandhana’s family.

“Really proud of my daughter, Shreyanka Patil on being selected for the first T20 World Cup. Congratulations Shreyanka and all the best team India,” said Shryanka’s parents.

India are placed in Group A along with Australia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand. It is worth mentioning that, Australia are six-time champion and will enter as the defending champions in the UAE.

India have been preparing well and hard ahead of the mega ICC event and it would be their prime goal to get off to a positive start right from Day 1 when they face New Zealand.
