[Watch] IPL 2025: MS Dhoni's lightening-fast stumping sends back Suryakumar Yadav
CSK opted to field first after winning the toss.
MS Dhoni effected his 43rd stumping in IPL, whipping off the bails within a blink of an eye to get rid of the Mumbai Indians stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav during Match 3 of IPL 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, March 23.
It was the third delivery of the 11th over when the 43-year-old gave a display of his sensational reflexes to get rid of Suryakumar, who was batting on 29. Suryakumar completely missed the delivery bowled by Noor Ahmad which turned away from him. In an attempt to drive the ball down the ground, he ended up missing the ball by a big margin, resulting in his dismissal.
Suryakumar was the fourth MI wicket to fall after Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks were dismissed for 13 and 11 earlier in the evening; Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the very first over of the match as he was dismissed by left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed. MI ended up scoring 52 for the loss of three wickets at the end of their powerplay.
MI ended up with 155/9 in the first innings as Tilak Varma top-scored with 31 to his name. As for CSK, Noor was the pick of the bowlers. The young 20-year-old Afghan wrist-spinner ended up with splendid figures of 4/18 in his four-over quota. On the other hand, Khaleel bagged three wickets for 29 runs. Nathan Ellis and R Ashwin got one apiece.
For the unversed, Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player by CSK ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2025. He was among the five players retained by the joint-most successful franchise in the tournament. Dhoni was secured for INR 4 crore.
