Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Trent Boult, once again, displayed his brilliance in swing bowling against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, March 31. The New Zealand speedster sent Sunil Narine packing for a duck in the very first over, giving MI a crucial start in the contest.

Skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first, and the decision paid off immediately, thanks to Boult. On just the fourth delivery of the match, the left-armer produced an absolute peach of a delivery to clean up Narine. The ball pitched on the middle stump generated significant late swing. Narine, who has traditionally struggled against Boult, exposed his stumps while moving leg-side to play a huge shot. However, he failed to make any contact, and the middle stump was disturbed.

His dismissal of Narine registered his 30th first-over wicket in the tournament's history, surpassing his record over India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has 27 such dismissals. Boult has now achieved this remarkable feat in just 96 matches.

Narine’s departure put immediate pressure on KKR’s batting lineup. The explosive all-rounder has been a game-changer for KKR at the top, and his early dismissal meant that Ajinkya Rahane’s side had to rely on their middle-order to recover from the setback.

However, MI bowlers capitalised on the early dismissal as they picked wickets at regular intervals, removing four KKR batters under the powerplay. Debutant Ashwani Kumar had a dream start to his IPL career as he picked his maiden wicket in the very first delivery, removing KKR skipper Rahane.

The defending champions struggled to find their footing in the game, as no batter could contribute significantly and had a night to forget. The Kolkata-based team was eventually bundled out at a mere 116 with Ashwani taking a four-wicket haul and other MI bowlers chipping in at the right time.
