Irfan Pathan bowled an absolute peach of a delivery in the finals of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 to castle Younis Khan as Indian Champions beat Pakistan Champions by five wickets on Saturday, July 13, at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

In the 12th over of Pakistan's innings, Irfan bowled a straight delivery on the stumps that slipped between the bat and pad of Pakistan Champions captain Younis. The right-handed batter played around the delivery and saw his off-stump being pegged back. Irfan expressed his delight by doing a fist pump and letting out a huge roar. The wicket fell at a very critical juncture in the high-voltage encounter as the Men in Green lost their fourth wicket for 79 runs.

The inaugural edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 tournament turned out to be a resounding success as fans witnessed several renowned former cricketers battling it out over 10 days in the quest to win the title. Eventually, India Champions, who struggled initially in the tournament, managed to bring their A-game to the fore at the business end of the tournament to lift the trophy.

After opting to bat first, Pakistan posted a total of 156/6 on a tricky surface as Anureet Singh starred with a three-for. Meanwhile, Irfan was the most economical bowler on the day as he finished with excellent figures 1/12 in his three overs.

In reply, Ambati Rayudu got his team off to a blazing start, even as Robin Uthappa and Suresh Raina fell cheaply from the other end. Gurkeerat Singh played watchfully and stitched a 60-run partnership with Rayudu to settle the nerves. The latter lost his wicket immediately after scoring a half-century.

India skipper Yuvraj Singh played the role of an anchor after coming to the crease. Gurkeerat was dismissed for a 33-ball 34 before Yusuf Pathan joined his captain and took the attack to the Pakistani bowlers. The right-handed batter's enterprising knock of 30 off 16 balls turned the game in favour of the Men in Blue and eventually, they won by five wickets with as many balls to spare.
