Rovman Powell and Jason Holder combined well to pull off a stunning catch to dismiss the dangerous Nicholas Pooran in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 clash between Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders on Saturday, September 14.

The Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados witnessed one of the finest catches of this form as Powell and Holder showed excellent presence of mind on the boundary ropes. The incident took place in the ninth over of Trinbago's innings as they were chasing 157.

Pooran tried to take on Keshav Maharaj down the ground but it came off the toe end of his bat. Powell settled under it after running across from long-off and took it high over his head. However, he realised in the nick of time that he was about to go over the ropes and in a split second, he decided to toss the ball to Holder, who ran across from long-on. The all-rounder had no problems in completing the catch as the superb teamwork yield the Royals an important wicket.

After Trinbago Knight Riders won the toss and opted to field first, Akeal Hosein struck twice in the first over to rock the Royals. Quinton de Kock played a counter-attacking knock of 39 off 21 deliveries but No. 4 batter Rivaldo Clarke struggled to rotate strike during his innings of 18 from 24 balls. Between their dismissals, the Royals lost the wicket of Holder for a duck. After being placed precariously at 71/5 in the 11th over, the home side needed Powell and David Miller to forge a partnership of substance to take them to a competitive score.

Miller played a fine cameo but Powell led from the front with an unbeaten 38-ball 59 to take his team to 156/7 in their 20 overs. Waqar Salamkheil was the pick of the bowlers for the Knights as he finished with figures of 3/13.

In reply, Maheesh Theekshana got the better of openers Sunil Narine and Jason Roy inside the first three overs before Shaqkere Parris and Nicholas Pooran stiched a crucial 51-run partnership off 39 balls. Keacy Carty also played a fine knock of 32 as the Knights were cruising at 106/3 in the 14th over, needing 51 off the last six, which is very much gettable in modern-day cricket. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals in the death overs until Hosein's 10-ball 20 and Terrance Hinds' unbeaten five-ball 14 helped Trinbago get over the line with two wickets and a ball to spare.
