CSK have remaining purse of INR 55 crore

The star cricketer who was last seen in action in IPL 2024, has recently been retained by Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming IPL 2025 season as an uncapped player for INR 4 crore. Due to a unique IPL retention rule that allowed teams to retain Indian players who haven't played at the highest level in the last five years under the uncapped category, Dhoni was acquired under this category.

The team has also secured the services of key players like Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad for INR 18 crore each, while Matheesha Pathirana and Shivam Dube were retained for INR 13 crore and INR 12 crore respectively. The five-time champions have exhausted INR 65 crore and will enter the auction table with a remaining purse of INR 55 crore. The side has to fill 20 slots, including seven overseas players.

Meanwhile, the focus is now on the auction which is set to take place on November 24 and 25, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In this season 1574 players have registered their names for the IPL 2025 mega auction but that list will be shortened after consultations between the IPL and the franchises, with the final list yet to be released.
