Ravichandran Ashwin turned out to be India's star performer with the bat in the first innings of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The legendary off-spinner slammed his sixth Test century on his home ground.

The fans who made the trip to the stadium witnessed a stunning partnership between Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja after India were reduced to 144/6 in the 43rd over. The cameras panned to the supporters every now and then to capture their emotions through an intriguing day of Test cricket. One of the fans, an elderly woman, hogged the limelight as she cheered passionately for the players from the stands. Her love for the game was appreciated by the commentators as well.

After Ashwin reached his half-century, the elderly aunty applauded the 38-year-old cricketer from her seat. However, what made the moment more interesting was that she had two tea cups in her hands. On air, Ravi Shastri compared her style of cheering to the ones from the spectators in the Long Room at Lord's after a player scores a century.

If you're going after the ball, might as well go after it really hard like Rishabh does: Ashwin

After the end of day's play, Ashwin noted that the pitch has decent bounce and carry. He said that his intention was to take on the bowling like Rishabh Pant, who scored an enterprising 39 off 52 balls on Day 1.

"It's an old Chennai surface with a bit of bounce and carry. The red soil pitch allows you to play a few shots if you are willing to just get in line and give it a bit of a tonk when there's width," Ashwin said.

"Of course, I have always been wafting my bat around outside off-stump. Worked on a few things and on a surface like this with a bit of spice, if you're going after the ball, might as well go after it really hard like Rishabh does," he added.
